ISO Tanks, often referred to as tank containers, or tanktainers, are an intermodal container used for the transport of liquids, gases, and powders. Being built to the ISO standard, they are easily transportable via intermodal freight transport such as road, rail, and sea.
Tank containers are built by incorporating a tank within a steel ISO frame which features locking corners identical to those on a standard general purpose shipping container. The tank itself is made from stainless steel surrounded by insulation and a protective layer of polyurethane and aluminium (in most cases).
ISO tanks can be used for both hazardous and non-hazardous goods, most commonly chemicals. Other uses include the transportation of oil, fuels, foods (such as animal feed), and gases.
